Saturday Morning (9/24) Running Plans

First of all, I want to wish good luck to all of the ladies who will be running the Ladies Half-Marathon this Saturday!!  As for the running plan for tomorrow, here you go:

6:30am – Amy, Mike, Megan, James, and Scott will be running 12 miles at a 9:00 – 9:15 pace.  We are meeting at 6:30 from Martin’s.  Please feel free to join us if you can!!

7:30am – If you want to run 2 to 5 miles, please come and join our 7:30 group.  I will not be there to distribute routes but if you need one, I will leave them in a folder on my car (blue Toyota Solara).

Thanks and have a great run tomorrow!!

September 2011 Members of the Month – Mike and Megan Brazill

Although I am not sure of the exact date, I remember that it was a very cold Saturday morning the day that I first met Mike and Megan Brazill.  John Pryor, Mike Niedzielski, and I were running on Nolensville Road when we saw a little white car pulling out of the parking lot beside Sonic.  All of us noticed that it looked like this young, attractive couple were wearing running clothes.  As it turned out, they went to Martin’s and didn’t see anyone and were actually going back home!!  Luckily, they rolled down their window and asked if we were with a local running club that they had heard about.  This “chance” meeting turned out to be a blessing as Mike and Megan have been a huge part of NRC’s success over the last year.  And yes, they are September’s Members of the Month!!

Mike and Megan have been married for just over a year and moved to Nolensville soon after they got married.  Megan describes herself as a “country farm girl UT graduate” and Mike as a “city-slicker Penn State alumni.”  Mike (born and raised next door to Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, PA)  met his “beautiful wife” and co-member of the month over five years ago in Knoxville while working out at their former gym.  Aside from hanging out with his NRC friends, Mike enjoys golf, weight training, playing tennis, hiking, and traveling.  Megan loves to ride horses, mountain bike, and…are you ready for this….eat fried foods!!!  Both of them enjoy spending time with their dogs Isabel and Ollie as well as partaking in a glass or two of wine from time to time!!

Although Mike has only been running for a little over a year (luckily for NRC Megan introduced him to the crazy sport), Mike has already run two half marathons and three 10k’s.    Megan, on the other hand, has been running for a long time and is one of NRC’s fastest runners.  If you don’t believe me, try joining her for a Wednesday night run!!  Mike and Megan plan on running the Louisville Half Marathon in October.  In November, they will be part of the NRC team participating in the Ragnar Relay.  Mike also admits that he will probably be “talked into running a couple of other races by Megan” before the end of the year.  For some reason, I think that is a pretty safe bet!!

When I asked Mike and Megan to tell us something that other NRC’ers aren’t aware of, Mike told me that he worked for Michelin Tire before joining his current employer, Johnson and Johnson.   So if you need some tire info, ask Mike!!  As for Megan, she has never, ever been able to burp.  Really???  Someone get that girl a few beers and let’s fix this problem immediately!!

Seriously, thanks Mike and Megan for all that you do for NRC.  We are blessed to have you as part of our group and we look forward to running many more miles with you!!

Saturday Morning (9/17) Running Plans

There is a lot going on this weekend with NRC!!  Eight of the guys are traveling to Louisville tomorrow morning to participate in a 30k (18.6 miles).  Amy Klotz will be doing her last long run before the Chicago Marathon on Sunday with the Nashville Striders.  And Shawn and Kelli will be up well before the sun rises on Saturday morning to run their last 20 mile run as well before Chicago.  With that being said, if anyone else wants to get in a long run, communicate via Facebook with others who may want to join.  I will meet the 7:30am group at Martin’s to hand out routes, etc. for those who want to run anywhere from 2 to 6 miles.

Thanks and I hope that everyone can get a run in this weekend.  For those traveling out of town, or running with other groups, GOOD LUCK this weekend!!

Saturday Morning (9/10) Running Plans!!

Looks like we are in for some great running weather tomorrow morning!!  Hopefully we will see many of you taking advantage of the cooler weather.  As always, we have several options for those wanting to log some miles.  Here ya go!!

THE EARLY BIRDS

Kelli and Shawn are meeting at 5am (yawn!!) for another Chicago Marathon training run.  They will be running 16 miles at an 11:15 – 11:30 pace.  You are welcome to join them for some or all of their morning run

THE “NOT AS EARLY” BIRDS

There will be quite a few of us meeting at 6:20 for our run.  The plan is to run 7 miles and be back at Martin’s at 7:30.  I know that many in the group will then run an additional 5 miles.  The plan is to run all 12 miles at a 9:15 pace.  So if you want to join for the first 7, the last 5, or all 12 miles we would love to have you!!

THE 7:30 GANG

For those who want to sleep in a little later (and who could really blame you!), the 7:30am group has a lot of options.  We have a two mile walking route (routes provided), as well as a three, four, and five mile route to choose from.

8:30 – MAMA’S JAVA!!

Regardless of what your running plans are, we try to time our Saturday morning runs so that we are done by 8:30.  We then go to Mama’s Java for a delicious (and well deserved) breakfast!!

Again, I hope to see many of you tomorrow morning.  If you have never joined us before, tomorrow would be a great time to check out NRC!!

Saturday Morning (September 3rd) Running Plans

I was hoping that the first Saturday in September would result in cooler temperatures.  Wrong!!  In looking at the weather for tomorrow, it appears that we are in for another hot day.  As a result, those who are training for a fall marathon will be starting well before the sun pops out tomorrow morning.

5:15am – yep…you read it correctly!!  I know of at least 6-7 of us who will meet at Martin’s at 5:15.  Although several will be running 20 miles, a few others will be running anywhere from 12-14.  The pace range for this group will range anywhere from 9 minutes to 9:15ish per mile.  Feel free to join us bright and early (well…maybe not too bright at 5:15) for a long run followed by food and fun at Mama’s Java.

5:00am – Wanna get up a little earlier than the group above?  Then come and join Kelli.  She will be running 20 as well at an 11 minute pace.  If you want to join her for the first 13-14 miles, she would certainly welcome the company since her regular running partner (Shawn) is at the beach this week!!

7:30am – for those who want to start a little later, come on out at 7:30 for a 3-6 mile run.  Routes will be provided.  The good news is that the groups mentioned above will return to Martin’s at 7:30 and will run their final 4-6 miles with anyone who wants to join!!

8:30am – One thing that never changes is going to our favorite eatery, Mama’s Java, for food, coffee, and tails from the road!!

Hope to see everyone tomorrow!!

Scott

Special Thanks, Vacation Update, NRC Goes International

Before I begin, I have to give a HUGE thanks to Amy Klotz for keeping everyone updated regarding the weekly NRC running schedule.  She did such a good job that I have officially named her the NRC Director of Communication 🙂  Seriously, thanks Amy and I hope that everyone had a great week.

As for Kelli and I, we arrived back home Saturday afternoon after a great vacation.  We arrived last Friday in Miami and spent the afternoon checking out the city.  My first priority upon checking into the hotel was to find a running route for Kelli and I.  After all, we had a 16 mile run that we needed to get in on Saturday morning before we departed on the Carnival Liberty for the next seven days.  We discovered a small island  that was a 1.1 mile loop.  Not exactly the way that anyone wants to run 16 miles but we determined that running by the water would not be so bad.  When we started our run at 5:30 am we immediately realized that the heat of Miami was going to be a factor.  About an hour into our run we saw our home for the next seven days (the Carnival Liberty) pulling into the dock (picture below).  The excitement helped to eliminate some of the misery of running around a 1.1 mile loop over and over in 90 degree weather!!  Fortunately, a rain shower (and a nearby Burger King that we used every 5 miles to refill our water bottles) helped us get through our long (and monotonous) training run!!

Our trip will forever be remembered as the one that was altered by tropical storm Irene.  We found out on Monday that we would not be traveling to St. Thomas and San Juan due to the storm’s path.  That was the bad news.  The good news is that we would be traveling to Cozumel for an entire day!!  While in Cozumel, I wanted to spread the word about NRC so I decided to sport one of our new shirts (picture below).  While on our zip-line excursion with dad, Ryne, and Matthew, I met a couple from Australia who commented on how great my shirt looked!!  Turns out, they were runners as well so we spent the next hour or so talking about…what else….running!!  Needless to say, I told them all about NRC and invited them to join  us if they are ever in Nolensville.  I know…the odds are slim but you never know!!!!

After spending the week running in circles (it took 9 laps on the boat’s track to equal a mile!!), we are both looking forward to running with all of our NRC friends this Wednesday.  Thanks again to Amy for keeping things going and to Christi Beth and Fleet Feet for bringing goodies to our Wednesday evening run!!

See you soon!
