Saturday Morning (7/9) Running Plans

For those wanting to get in a Saturday morning run, NRC has several options.  The early risers will meet at 6am at Martin’s Barbecue.  This group wil be led by Amy Klotz, James Blaylock, and Mike & Megan Brazill.  Their plan is to run approximately 14 miles but it will be broken up into two segments.  The first is a 9 mile segment (beginning at 6am) that will end at Martin’s Barbecue at 7:30 or so.  Those who show up at 7:30 can then join this group for their final 5 miles if this distance works better for you.  This group will be running a 9:15 pace and they asked me to encourage anyone who wants to come out and join them for either the first nine mile segment, the second five mile segment, or better yet, for all 14 miles!!!!

Another group will begin at 7:30 at Martin’s Barbecue and will run a variety of paces.  Routes will range from 2 to 5 miles and directions for each route will be available.

Kelli and I will be out of town this weekend but we are fortunate to have runners who are more than capable of getting the group off and running in our absence!!

Thanks and Happy Running!!

Scott

Friday, July 1st – Saturday Run

Hey everyone.  As usual, we will be meeting at Martin’s Barbecue at 7:30am tomorrow for our weekly Saturday run.  Several people are meeting at 6:30 to get in some miles before the regular 7:30 start.  This group will be running a 9 minute pace (give or take a few seconds) so feel free to join if you can.  Thanks and see you tomorrow!!

Wednesday, June 28th

A couple of months ago, Pamela Hobson was nice enough to come and join the Nolensville Running Club for one of our Wednesday night runs.  Whether or not you remember Pamela, NRC has a chance to make a difference in an organization that she is involved with.  Pamela will be coaching a summer running group at Monroe Harding Children’s Home for at-risk youth.  She will be working with 12 teenage boys beginning next week to help them train for the Franklin Classic. The boys will need running shoes and their sizes range from 9 to 14.5. T…hey are hoping to get clean, gently-used, men’s running shoes. They do not need to be brand new. They are also seeking re-usable water bottle donations.

Pamela will be running with the boys every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and will incorporate the Striders XC races in August. The boys will then run either the 5K or 10k at the Franklin Classic. The boys’ race registration fees will be covered by The Nashville Striders Youth Program fund.

The Striders will have their Reach-Out Donation Box at the Firecracker 5k on Monday, July 4th for shoe and bottle donations. Donations can also be made directly to Monroe-Harding. If those options are not convenient for you, Pamela will be happy to make other arrangements. Please contact her directly at: pamela.hobson@gmail.com

As runners, we can all appreciate how empowering the sport of running can be. Pamela was told last year by M-H staff, that the summer running program had a noticeably positive impact on the boys who participated. Thanks in advance for your support of this program.

Wednesday, June 28

“You can throw in the towel, or you can use it to wipe the sweat off your face.”   I saw this quote earlier on another running website and thought that it was too good not to share!!  With temps in the mid 80’s this Wednesday, it should be a great evening to run.  Come join us at 6:15 at Martin’s Barbecue for a 2,3,4, or 5 mile run followed by a post run get-together at Mama’s Java.  If you have any questions, please contact Scott Alexander at 394-0821.  And don’t forget your towel!!!!

FREE YOGA CLASSES!!

Everyone knows that yoga is extremely beneficial for runners but very few of us actually take the time to attend yoga classes.  With that being said, there is no better time than now to start reaping the benefits of yoga… for free!!  Melissa Bennett, the leader of boot camp classes at Elite Dance and Fitness in Nolensville, is offering free yoga classes every Sunday at 6pm.   These classes will be held at Franklin Christian Church on the corner of Highway 96 and Clovercroft Road.  The only thing that you need to bring is a mat.  So come out and take advantage of this great opportunity to enjoy some free yoga!!

NRC Shows Up In Force At Nolensville 5K

In a 5k race held in our own backyard, approximately 20 NRC runners showed up on Saturday morning to participate in the Change for a Chance 5k.  Congratulations to everyone who ran one of the most challenging 5k courses around!!  Several of our members went home carrying medals including overall winner Jacob Carrigan and overall female winner Deanna Zieman.  Also winning medals were Steven Fleming (3rd place overall) and Amy Klotz (1st in age group and 2nd female finisher).  It also needs to be noted that NRC speedster Ray Whitford was on track for a top 3 finish but a misleading course sign resulted in Ray running a 6k instead of a 5k.  That’s ok Ray…you still finished in the top 10 even after running an extra half mile!!  Great job again to everyone who came out this morning and proudly represented the Nolensville Running Club!!  See you Wednesday evening at 6:15.

Lawn Festival Parade – Come Join Us!

·

· Opportunity to show off the NRC members -There will be a parade in Nolensville tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m. as part of the Lawn Festival. Scott’s dad (aka The Mayor) will be driving a car in the parade and one side of the car will have an advertisement for NRC. We would like to get as many members as we can to run behind the car as part of the parade. It will be very slow so everyone can bring their kids, etc. It will be a great way to have your kids participate in the parade. We will meet at Martin’s at 10:15 or so.
